Western Equatoria state top authority on Monday warmly welcomed the team of the union of journalists of South Sudan (UJOSS) led by its chairperson, Oyet Patrick and pledged readiness to support the union’s activities in the area.Ganiko Kennedy, acting governor who is also the deputy governor, appreciated UJOSS for its continuous efforts of building the capacity of journalists in the country. “We thank the union for extending its outreach program of training reporters to the state. This training will help build the capacity of the journalists in Western Equatoria state,” Ganiko told the UJOSS team in a courtesy visit to his office in Yambio, the capital of Western Equatoria. He added that the state authorities will always cooperate with the media, noting that the state leadership require journalists to report professionally. Isaac Murusa Timon, the state information minister, said training journalists is a priority. “We thank UJOSS for helping us to train journalists in the state. The state’s ministry of information has prioritized training of journalists as a factor of provision of quality information to the public in the area,” Murusa said.Oyet Patrick Charles, the president of UJOSS on behalf of the team lauded the Yambio administration for setting a good gesture of welcoming the union with great humility. Oyet said since the union started the outreach programs last year, Western Equatoria state was the first to chart the top of the list of the states. The union’s leadership also thanks the South Sudan’s Media Authority and partners for their continuous support.
