Welcome to UJOSS

The Union of Journalists of South Sudan, (UJOSS) is a registered trade Union. It was founded in 2004 with the aim of promoting professionalism, welfare, protection and safety of journalists in South Sudan.

Members of UJOSS work across media industry in South Sudan such as Radio and TV reporters, presenters, producers, freelancers, photographers, filmmakers among others.

News editors, sub-editors, copy editors, university lecturers in the communications, journalism and media schools or institutions are eligible to join UJOSS as associate members.

UJOSS is a member of South Sudan Workers’ Trade Union Federation.

      

About Us

UJOSS IS A JOURNALISTS’ COMMUNITY

We champion the rights, professionalism of journalists and promote press freedom.

We work to;

  • Promote safety, security and protection of journalists in South Sudan;
  • Promote social and economic development of South Sudanese journalists including advocating for fair wages and better working conditions for our members.
  • Promote professionalism by developing capacity of journalists through offering trainings in fields such as parliamentary, oil sector, business, constitution-making process reporting etc.
  • Provide legal aid for its members in the event of litigation on issues regarding work of a member as journalist.
  • Defend, maintain and promote independence of media in South Sudan;
  • Promote generally; the interests of journalists and journalism for Print and Electronic Media, in English or any other language spoken in South Sudan.

UJOSS has associate members who are editors, sub-editors, copy editors, professors and lecturers of Mass Communication at various learning institutions. THE SECRETARIAT

The Union of Journalists of South Sudan is managed by a Constitution. The Constitution provides for election of the President, the Secretary General and the Treasury. The three elected officials then consult among themselves and appoint a National Executive Committee, which manages the day-to-day activities of UJOSS. UJOSS has branch offices in the ten states of South Sudan. Each branch office is headed by state coordinator who has a team and the coordinator reports to the Secretary General in the headquarters in Juba Team Member at the headquarters from 2021
