The Union of Journalists of South Sudan (UJOSS) has commenced a three-day training in Rumkek, Lakes State.
UJOSS Vice President, Ajak Ayak told Juba Echo that a team of media trainers, consultant and UJOSS National Executive Members will begin training of twenty five journalists in Rumbek, Lakes State.
“The team will be in Rumbek for four days, spending two days on training journalists and one day for a round table discussion between security personnel and journalists with an aim of improving working relationship between them.” Said Ayak.
UJOSS says the training is funded by the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
“We thank UNESCO for standing with UJOSS to build capacity of journalists across the country and supporting initiatives to bring various stakeholders such as security organs, government officials and journalists together to build a better working relationship.” Added Ayak.
Lakes State Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport who is the acting Information Minister William Koji Kirjok urged UJOSS to pay more attention to capacity building for journalists.
Koji said that many of the problems that journalists get into originate from lack of capacity to professionally handle news items.
UJOSS says the training will run from Wednesday to Friday this week
