The Union of Journalists of South Sudan (UJOSS) is participating in the Global Congress of the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) in Paris, France.

This significant gathering marks the centenary of IFJ, commemorating 100 years of advancing journalists’ rights and promoting media freedom worldwide.

The Congress took place from 4th-7th May 2026.

Oyet Patrick Charles, UJOSS President is representing South Sudan at the congress, contributing to high-level discussions and decision-making processes that shape the global journalism landscape.

The congress will conclude with the election of IFJ leadership for the upcoming term. As a full member of IFJ and a voting member, UJOSS will participate in electing key office bearers, including the IFJ President, Senior Vice President, Vice President, members of various working committees, and regional representatives.

This represents a major milestone for UJOSS, as it marks the first time the union is participating in IFJ elections since its establishment in South Sudan nearly two decades ago.

Africa is strongly represented in the elections, including Omar Farouk, a candidate from the Federation of African Journalists (FAJ) contesting for the position of Senior Vice President.

With participation from over 100 delegates representing journalists’ unions and associations worldwide, the congress underscores the importance of global cooperation in advancing the profession.

UJOSS’s role as a voting member reflects its growing engagement in international platforms and its commitment to promoting journalistic standards, solidarity, and the voice of African media globally.
