
On October 7, 2024,The Union of journalists of South Sudan or UJOSS in Unity State conducted one-day training for 25 participants.
The one-day Workshop foused on promoting Civic and Mobile Journalism in South Sudan a program funded by the Norwegian people’s Aid (NPA).
The workshop brought together South Sudan human rights defenders, Civil society organizations, youths’ representatives from Bentiu town, Bentiu Internally displaced persons camp and state government official. The trainings made participants to understand civic journalism, mobile journalism and the differences between civic journalism and traditional journalism, as well as the impacts of misinformation.
During the Workshop, South Sudan human rights defenders Unity State coordinator, Mr. Simon Riak Biet, expressed his gratitude to the Union of Journalists of South Sudan (UJOSS) Unity State branch office, UJOSS National office, and Norwegian People’s Aid for supporting this initiative”Not only journalists benefited from this wonderful gathering; I truly benefited from this workshop. Seeing the excitement on the faces of my 25 colleagues, we have learned about civic journalism, mobile journalism, and, including misinformation and fact-checking in reporting,” said Mr. Biet.
